Did this in a little over an hour and a half. I don’t know if this qualifies as a sketch, but it is rather rough, and I didn’t even bother to get rid of any of the erasure marks. I used only four tools in Photoshop to do this: Brush, Smudge, Dodge, and Burn. The method was inspired by a classmate of mine in my Digital Imaging class—he’d scanned in a pencil sketch of his, used Photoshop to give it a tan tint, and then added some dimensionality to it by using only the aforementioned tools. I thought that was rather cool, and tried it out on an old sketch of mine.

The sketch itself is pretty ordinary. I gave the ofuda in Miroku’s mouth a glowy effect to simulate that “holy aura” thing he gives off when he’s fighting. Incidentally, even though it’s not all that obvious in the anime, Miroku seems to have a kind of oral fixation—in stills and other artworks he’s got either his ofuda or prayer beads tucked between his teeth. I thought it quirky and cute. Sublimate much, Houshi-hon?
