Layout Information

I don’t really know what I was going for when I started on the third version of this site, but for some reason it didn’t turn out all that “spiderwebby”. All I knew was that I had to make a new layout using my new “Angel” CG before I had to go back to school, and since I’ve been stricken with some unidentifiable flu-like-but-not-really-flu-like illness for the past week, I planted myself in front of the PC and cobbled together the third layout without any real final result in mind. I guess I should’ve been more creative—I even contemplated using iframes and text scrolling—but I was in a hurry, and I decided that my usual table structure was more suitable for this kind of site.

For this layout I eschewed the fancier fonts for simpler, less decorative ones: Minion, English111 Vivace BT, Century Gothic, Garamond, and Kabel Bk BT. I chose the song “Falls on Me” by Fuel just because it’s gorgeous and it’s the newest entry to my Mirokuesque song collection. The logo on the index page was inspired by the art of Tecmo’s “Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly” video game, the kanji made with the help of Windows XP, and the spider lifted from Corel PhotoPaint’s clip collection. The lyrics on the guestbook image come from Sheryl Crow’s cover of the Guns ‘n’ Roses classic “Sweet Child of Mine”. As usual, the HTML coding and javascripting were done by me on WordPad because I still don’t like Notepad’s font and I still can’t afford Pagemaker or Dreamweaver or all those other fancy webpage-makin’ programs. Sob.

This site is currently hosted by Globat, whose webspace I managed to procure thanks to Jane Clift, a.k.a. Elffromspace, and I cannot thank her enough. Now I don’t have to obsess over whether I’m gonna get flak from my host server for pushing the envelope over matters such as the slightest suggestion of nudity, even in the name of art. *sigh* Freedom is such a wonderful thing.

Previous Layouts

Kumo no Su Version 2.0 >> With or Without You

Kumo No Su >> Version Two

For the site second layout, I used the “Spiderwebs” CG for the splash image; I originally pictured a dark blue color scheme, but then I started fiddling around the the Gradient tool and ended up with a green/cerise shade that seemed to fit the background. Before I knew it, I’d eschewed my nice, elegant dark blue color scheme for a green/red/yellow one, something I had used for a old site design of mine. A lot of people liked this one, but a few had trouble spotting the transparent yellow site links.

As always, the images used in this site layout were created with the help of Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and sliced with Adobe ImageReady. For the fonts, I selected Laine Day SH, Texas Hero, Futura Lt BT, Velvet, and Violation. The kanji, hiragana, and katakana were obtained thanks to Windows XP’s lovely language support options; all I had to do was write down the words in romaji and viola—instant conversion. The lyrics scattered throughout are from “With or Without You” by U2, one of my favorite bands.

Kumo no Su Version 1.0 >> Building a Mystery

Kumo No Su >> Version One

The original layout for the “Kumo no Su” site. I actually didn’t want to use the “Kama Sutra” image for the main splash picture, but it was ready to go and I didn’t have the doujinshi cover yet, so I decided to settle on the former.

The images for this layout were created with the help of Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and sliced with Adobe ImageReady. The fonts used are 7 Days, Broken Phone Nails, Facelift, Sabotage, PJ Hiragana, and Katakana, and the lyrics interspersed throughout the image were taken from Sarah McLachlan’s “Building a Mystery” (the most Mirokuesque song I’ve come across yet). All HTML coding and javascripting were done by me on WordPad, just because I don’t like Notepad’s font and I can’t afford to spend my college money on a decent webpage-making program.
